So.. this is probably why many of my girl-friends choose to be and stay single and have their cynical outlook on love and relationships:

“same sleazy but fun ex -he tried to kiss me twice and walked me home with the hopes of being invited in despite now living with his current girlfriend. men!”

So last night, I went to an IT08 social. Let me tell you…they got some pretty crazy folks on that team! I can’t believe that I will be spending as much time as I will with them in the next year! I met the infamous Kamal famous for his FK rides- you know those rides that are supposed to be 100 miles but it turns out that its actually 120? He listed out key events for the upcoming season. I’ve listed them out with my initial thoughts:

Sprint Tri in freezing waters- How freezing are we talking here? Back in March, Coach James made us swim in 45 degree water at Aquatic Park. I literally thought my face was going to fall off. It was beyond freezing! It took hours for me to just get painful tingly feeling out of my toes. It was still hurting hours after the swim when we went to MJ’s to rehearse our “Bringing Spandex Back” skit! If the water is below 45..I ain’t going in. I love the water but let’s not be excessive here! I like my toes..I’d like to keep them thank you very much!

Louie Tri in freezing waters- Alright..anything for Louie! Who is Louie? Get ready to be inspired my friend!

bootcamps- How is this different from the Berryessa camp I keep hearing about? I asked? Kamal said,”oh no no..different..you wait and see.” I got scared. I think I should be scared!

fundraising- For a great cause..I’ve been getting good at asking for money..I think? 

fun parties- Would I still have energy for fun parties? 

fun people- I sure hope so!

Half-way to Iron- I think this is the Wildflower training weekend in March?

UVAS- Do I even want to know what this stands for?

Berryessa- I keep hearing about it..apparently its HOT there! 

Livermore rides against the wind- Great, more wind! Boo wind! 

East Bay Century- I am assuming this includes the Three Bears Loop..??

Triple Brick- Well, that’s going to be a long day! I think it goes something like..bike 30..run 5 or 7…repeat and repeat again.

Special Needs Bags- It better be pretty special in there! I’m talking there better be some vicodin in there and not just thermolytes! Anything that’ll bring me to a happy place! Haha. That’s for Heidi- happy place!

More importantly why people come back again and again!- Right….(with a look of uncertainty..)

Highlight of the evening was when Deb signed up as well!! Sweet- it’s going to be a fun season!

Alright let’s give this list a thought here..

By 30, you should have:

1 One old boyfriend you can imagine going back to and one who reminds you of how far you’ve come. — I am not going back to any of them, no offense to any of them, but they’ve all reminded me of how far I’ve come.

2 A decent piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in your family. –  Not very important to me right now. Maybe when I am 35.

3 Something perfect to wear if the employer or man of your dreams wants to see you in an hour.  –Check!

4 A purse, a suitcase and an umbrella you’re not ashamed to be seen carrying. — Check!

6 A past juicy enough that you’re looking forward to retelling it in your old age. –It’s a work in progress.

9 A résumé that is not even the slightest bit padded. –Check!

11 A set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill and a black lace bra. –Yes, no and yes.

12 Something ridiculously expensive that you bought for yourself, just because you deserve it. –What is ridiculous expensive?

13 The belief that you deserve it. –Mos def!

14 A skin-care regimen, an exercise routine and a plan for dealing with those few other facets of life that don’t get better after 30. – Hope so!

15 A solid start on a satisfying career, a satisfying relationship and all those other facets of life that do get better. –Yes on the career. The relationship I value most is the one with myself so in that aspect, check!

By 30, you should know:

1 How to fall in love without losing yourself. –At this point, I sure hope so!

2 How you feel about having kids. –Most definitely!

3 How to quit a job, break up with a man and confront a friend without ruining the friendship.          –Yes, yes and yes.

4 When to try harder and when to walk away. –It’s been getting better over the years..

5 How to kiss in a way that communicates perfectly what you would and wouldn’t like to happen next. –Lovely.

6 The names of: the secretary of state, your great-grandmother and the best tailor in town. –Crap..

8 How to take control of your own birthday.                                                                                       –Yeah…working on it.

9 That you can’t change the length of your calves, the width of your hips or the nature of your parents. –Duh!

10 That your childhood may not have been perfect, but it’s over. –Obviously. Though I would like to meet me as a child. Wouldn’t that be interesting?

11 What you would and wouldn’t do for money or love. –Absolutely.

12 That nobody gets away with smoking, drinking, doing drugs or not flossing for very long. – Couldn’t agree more.

13 Who you can trust, who you can’t and why you shouldn’t take it personally.  – Work in progress and no, I don’t take it personally.

14 Not to apologize for something that isn’t your fault.  – No issues here!

15 Why they say life begins at 30. –We’ll see!

Talk about a WTF moment! Tim Donaghy, in my mind should be given the max of 25 years in prison. An out involving money shouldn’t even be an option! I can’t seem to figure out why on earth would be want to cheat the system and the dignity of the game. The guy makes $260k a year. One would think that its more than enough to live on. Maybe I wouldn’t be as focused into this current event if he hadn’t been calling the Suns vs Spurs series but he was and me being a Suns fan..I am a bit pissed off! As if it wasn’t bad enough that the Suns got the short end of the stick with the body check of Nash from Horry and it was Diaw and Stat who got suspended for leaving the bench at that instant. Talk about another WTF moment. Don’t even get me started on that one! So apparently, in court, Donaghy said he is receiving psychiatric treatment for his gambling problem and is taking antidepressant and anxiety medication. Well damn, I should bill him for the anxiety meds I needed during the playoff series! Not that I took any but I am just saying..

On a side note, I love Reggie Miller. He’s one of my all time favorite players. He should not come out of retirement to play for the Celtics. He had a good run with the Pacers, a great player, last second daggers, hate him if you’re playing with him and a great retirement tribute and ceremony. Let’s not ruin it. I even had a tear watching your retirement on TV.  Stay retired..I like listening to you commentate. Besides, should Miller play for the Celtics and they meet the Suns in the Finals, I wouldn’t know which team to root for. Who am I kidding, Go Suns! Stay retired Reggie!

I went to bed last night thinking I was going to swim this morning but when I woke up, I was in the mood to run. So out the door I went, put on the running shoes, grabbed my water bottle and ipod. I knew I wanted to put in a longer run…maybe from the Bay Club to the flag pole in the Marina Green..depending on time. Plans changed as I ran past the flag pole and decided to target for the eucalyptus trees instead just outside of Crissy Field. Throughout the entire 70 minutes, I had one song playing in my ipod and I can’t seem to get it out of my head. Rihanna’s Umbrella- get it out of my head!! I am not sure why it’s even in my head or why I had it repeated on my ipod. I don’t particularly like her voice..I am not sure I like her tone but that song gets in your head and it just stays there.

Took a day off work today so I can ride the Big Kahuna bike course down in Santa Cruz with two friends. I left at 5:45am for Heidi’s house..was supposed to be there at 6am..took a slight detour after taking a few wrong turns..at that hour..I am used to driving to the gym so the body and mind is kind of on auto mode..after a few turns..I thought..this isn’t right..so made a few detours towards Heidi’s place. We picked up Colleen and headed on the 101 towards Santa Cruz.

The Big Kahuna bike course is a 56 mile out and back. The first 28 miles sucked @ss big time! The head wind was enough to even make me want to cry..well maybe not that bad but it was definitely discouraging. The last 4 or 5 miles of the first 28 miles seem to have taken forever to reach. At one point, I just kind of sat up and took my time along with Colleen. Going there took us just under 2 hours..at least there was a very pretty lighthouse to keep in sight for those last miserable miles of the first half.

The second half of the bike course was so much better! Took us under an hour and half reaching 43mph on this one descend. Sweet! Big trucks along the highway was a bit frightening but other than that, so much smoother than the first half. The course overall isn’t hard. Not too many big hills..just rollers..but that wind..boy oh boy! I guess it could be worse..you could get sting in the eye by a bee or something. Shrug.

Coming back, we saw some miserable faces going out on the course. All I can say is I know how you feel buddy!

After the ride..we went to downtown Santa Cruz to grab a bit..then I took the girls on a driving tour of the UC Santa Cruz campus (Go Slugs!)..stopped by Marianne’s for ice cream and back to the windy foggy city.

I think I am liking this take a day off work to go riding thing!

Congrats to Alan and Melissa who got married three weeks ago in San Diego! Alan is actually a family friend of Mel’s and can I just tell you how right they are for eachother. I am so happy for my girl as she’s one of my dearest friends. I still remember back in the day when we’d take turns flying to eachother’s towns to support eachother through break ups and just life in general. We’ve come a long way haven’t me Melly Mel? I’ll be visiting soon!

Congrats to Rique and Okem who got married this past Saturday. Yes, I attended with my bee sting to the eye and all. At the time, it was not swollen yet. The rude awakening came Sunday morning. So Rique and Okem met at a club in Washington DC while Rique was visiting our college friend Stephanie. Rique lived in LA at the time while Okem lived in DC. They talked..they emailed..and next thing you know across the country Okem moved. He knew! Rique and I don’t see eachother often but when we do, it’s good times. And I have to say, the entire evening she was smiling ear to ear. I don’t think I’ve never seen her so happy!
